Brain Controlled Game… What?!?!??!?!

with one comment

It’s really crazy… Square Enix, Co. Ltd. will demo its new game concept developed in conjuction with NeuroSky, Inc. As some of us may know already that Square Enix is the creator of Final Fantasy series. NeuroSky, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of wearable bio-sensor. They teamed toghether not to develop a new Final Fantasy episode, but they might create a Final Fantasy game that can be played without using any game controller device. It will use your brainwaves signal to control the game…

Kinda very sciencefictionous, but the technological approach is at least logical… it simply uses a headphone-like device with a sensor attached to your forehead for the brainwaves reading called MindSet (yes, sounds right). Then, this device is simply connected to the computer (or console) and it replaces the game pad/keyboard/mouse/joystick/wadever…

  1. Emotiv Systems has a research lab down in darling harbour, they’re doing the same kind of work:

they paid me $20 to run an eeg while I watched some movies, to pick up the patterns of activation for various emotions – meaning I’m part of the technology now! (a very small part, to be sure, but my abnormal brain patterns are still there somehow!)

I think emotiv has a working controller, too… They used it to drive a car, on discovery channel: http://dsc.discovery.com/video/player.html?playerId=203711706&categoryId=1817711172&lineupId=1815835836&titleId=1811559546
